June 8, 2007, Newsletter Issue #4: Hair Transplant Costs vs. Hair Loss Treatment Costs

1

Tip of the Week

Bernstein Medical Tip: If hair transplant costs is the only factor holding you back from hair transplant surgery, you may want to consider what you’re spending on those hair loss treatments you’re using. Rogaine, a topical solution that is applied twice daily to the scalp, costs a minimum of $200 per year. Keep in mind that Rogaine also has limited results and the moment you stop using Rogaine any hair growth you experienced will fall out.

Finasteride, also known as Propecia, can run a whopping $720 or higher for a year’s supply. While the results with Propecia are much improved over Rogaine, it is still an incurred cost that you must pay year after year and the moment you stop using the drug any hair gain will be gone. When you add up what it costs to try and grow hair yourself versus the one time hair transplant cost you may find that it is more than worth it to pay out the larger sum once and be done with pills and foams for good.
