September 19, 2008, Newsletter Issue #70: Removing Grafts from Older Hair Transplants
1
Tip of the Week
Patients who have had hair transplants using older techniques may be left with a “pluggy” cosmetic result along the frontal hair line. These old plugs can be removed utilizing new graft excision techniques. In this process, the larger plugs can be removed and sutured closed. The large plugs can then be dissected under microscopes and the hair obtained from these excised grafts can be re-transplanted to obtain a more natural looking hair line in the same hair restoration procedure. An advantage of performing a graft excision when attempting to reverse a bad hair transplant is that the surgeon is re-using the hair from the original transplant.
