If you are trying alternative methods like herbs and dietary changes to address your hair loss and you aren't satisfied with the results, you might consider having hair implant surgery. Yes, this is a more significant - and expensive - option but consider how much time and money you've put into other treatments, even traditional ones like Rogaine or Propecia. Additionally, if you stop those treatments the results stop as well. If you have hair restoration surgery, the results are permanent. But like any surgery, there is a recovery period. If a hair resoration specialist tells you there is no recovery period and no risks associated with hair implant surgery, that clinic or center is not qualified to do it.
So what can you expect? First, your scalp may be tender during the initial recovery period of about a few days to a week. You might need to take pain killers during this time. Don't be a hero! Follow your doctor's orders on this. You'll also be expected to wear a dressing and a cap for a few days. And, some surgeons may recommend both anti-inflammatory drugs as well as antibiotics to prevent infection. At about 24 hours after your surgery, you'll notice that scabs have formed on your scalp where the grafts were placed. These are normal and will likely fall off within a week to 10 days. Any scarring that's left will be covered up by new hair in time. Then, at about six to 15 weeks, you'll notice the grafts beginning to grow new hair where you were once going bald!
